N.K. Jemisin has been named one of three 2026 inductees to the New York State Writers Hall of Fame, the Empire State Center for the Book announced on 6 October. The honour places the Brooklyn-based author alongside crime novelist Lawrence Block and the late children's writer Kay Thompson in this year's class, as first reported by the Empire State Center for the Book has announced Lawrence Block and N.K. Jemisin as two of the three writers in 2026 to be inducted into the New York State (NYS) Writers Hall of Fame, along with Kay Thompson (posthumously).
What the Hall of Fame honour means
The New York State Writers Hall of Fame has run since 2010, recognising writers with a strong connection to the state for their contribution to literature. According to the Hall of Fame is presented alongside the NYS Writers Institute, a literary organisation that "enhances and celebrates literature, writing, and performance." This year's selections went through a formal panel, with the 2026 Hall of Fame selection committee including Matthew Baker, John Batteiger, Mildred Bernstein, Kevin Fitzpatrick, Paul Grondahl, Ira B. Matetsky Esq., Susan Polos, and Empire State Center for the Book director Rocco Staino.
Jemisin, Block and Thompson will formally join the Hall of Fame at a ceremony next month. Locus reports that Block, Jemisin, and Thompson will be celebrated at an induction ceremony on November 17, 2026 in New York NY. File 770's coverage of the announcement described Jemisin simply as "a multiple Hugo Award-winning science fiction and fantasy writer who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York", a fitting shorthand for a career that has reshaped modern fantasy. You can read the original reports at File 770 and Locus.
Why Jemisin fans will care
For readers who've followed Jemisin through the Inheritance trilogy, the Broken Earth books and the Great Cities series, this isn't a prize for a single title. It's a recognition of a body of work built over more than a decade, from early novels through to more recent additions like The World We Make. On N.K. Jemisin's author page we track 17 of her books, including The Fifth Season, The Obelisk Gate and The Stone Sky from the Broken Earth trilogy, alongside her Great Cities novels and shorter works such as The City Born Great. We say "the books we track" rather than claim a complete list, since Jemisin's bibliography also stretches into comics and short fiction that we continue to add as details are confirmed.
The Hall of Fame news doesn't come with a new Jemisin novel attached, and we won't invent one. What we can tell you is that the moment she does announce her next book, Bleepia will be ready to let you know.
How Bleepia flags her next release
This is exactly the sort of author update Bleepia exists for. We don't cover film deals, television adaptations or award ceremonies as ongoing news beats, but we do watch publication schedules closely, and the second a new Jemisin title gets a confirmed release date, followers of her page get an email that day. No digging through publisher newsletters, no guessing at pub dates.
If you're already into epic, idea-driven fantasy in the vein of Jemisin's work, it's worth keeping an eye on other authors in that space too. Readers who enjoy her blend of politics, power and invented worlds often find plenty to like in upcoming genre fantasy such as Mark of the Warrior by Fonda Lee, due 27 October 2026.
